The Vaporizer is a large flying ARC drone added in update 1.22.0, the Flashpoint update, on March 31, 2026. It escorts the ARC Assessor, it only appears under one map condition, and the wiki's own warning is that engaging it without sufficient cover "will quickly end in your demise." The wiki lists its health at 1500, the only hard stat anyone has published for it. The codex says "its menacing glow can be seen from great distances."
Where it spawns
Close Scrutiny only. Beebom says Vaporizers spawn during that condition and no other. The wiki's wording is softer ("typically deployed on high importance missions"), but no source names an exception.
The wiki lists Close Scrutiny on four maps: Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport and The Blue Gate. TheGamer lists only three, leaving out Spaceport, and no patch note settles it. Per-map condition details are on our /maps pages.
Inside the map, look wherever the Assessor probes come down, typically the center or the outskirts, with two or more Vaporizers guarding it. They also join the swarm summoned when a Raider first breaches an Assessor pylon. Since live update 1.33.0 on June 16, 2026, free loadouts are disabled for Close Scrutiny, so you commit real kit.
How it attacks
Game Rant documents three separate attacks:
- A single-target delayed laser blast that locks onto one player, similar to the Sentinel. It can strip your shield and set you on fire.
- A laser dragged along the ground, leaving a trail of fire behind it.
- A barrage of smaller lasers aimed at several players at once.
The movement is what catches people out. Game Rant rates its speed and maneuverability above the Rocketeer's, and says the constant motion makes precise shots hard. GamesRadar calls it a low-hanging drone that stalks the map in pairs, and documents a player who engaged from decent cover, only for two to circle around and kill from behind.
Odd idle movement is a bug Embark fixed in update 1.23.0, not emergent AI. Embark's own machine learning lead says drones run on traditional control systems, not the learned locomotion on our /ai page.
The shield
Throwing a seeking or projectile grenade, a Seeker or a Wolfpack, triggers a defensive energy shield like the Matriarch's. While it is up it blocks all projectile damage, small arms included, and the Vaporizer stops firing, so it is a pause for both sides.
The wiki's counter is to bait it on purpose: trigger the shield, wait it out, then dump your seeking and high damage weapons into the cooldown window. The mistake is the reverse, throwing Wolfpacks into a shield that is already up. Nobody publishes a duration or a cooldown, so watch it rather than count.
Where to shoot it
Three sourced descriptions exist and they do not fully agree. Carry all three, do not pick one:
- The wiki's infobox lists the weakness as thrusters.
- The wiki's page text also says shooting the underside knocks off a rectangular panel and exposes the core. GamesRadar names both the thruster turbines on either side and a belly core behind breakable armor.
- Game Rant contradicts that: unlike the Rocketeer, the Vaporizer has no exposed thrusters, only smaller rotors closer to a Snitch's. Break those and it loses speed and drops in height. It names the belly core too.
The outlets agree on the order: strip armor first, then hit what you exposed. GamesRadar: "Your Anvil or similar weapon will be more effective once the armor is broken, not before."
Both outlets also document the advanced play, rappelling onto the hull with a Snap Hook and planting a Deadline mine on its back. Game Rant frames it as the follow up once you have broken the rotors and forced the machine low, and GamesRadar is blunt that it is for experienced players.
On the tier question: the wiki's infobox lists armor as Light, GamesRadar says all parts of it are highly armored, and nothing calls it heavy tier. Play it as heavily armored and bring penetration.
What to bring
Ammo type determines how easily a weapon penetrates ARC armor. Light struggles, shotgun does better, medium better again, heavy better still, explosive launcher ammo tops the ladder, and energy clips vary by gun but are never worse than heavy. Nobody recommends light or shotgun ammo here.
Named for the Vaporizer:
- Hullcracker (launcher ammo, very strong penetration). The consensus pick for stripping plating.
- Anvil (heavy ammo). Precision shots at the thrusters or rotors.
- Ferro (heavy ammo). Named for its plating penetration.
- Aphelion (energy clip). The precision tool for removing rotors and forcing it down.
- Equalizer (energy clip, very strong). Beebom's top pick with the Hullcracker.
- Wolfpack grenade, its listed counter on the wiki, but only into a down shield.
Beebom's budget option is an upgraded Anvil or Renegade. The Renegade is medium ammo, the only sub-heavy pick anywhere. Build the kit in /loadouts first.
The mistake that gets people killed
Fighting it in the open. Every source leads with this. GamesRadar: "Do not fight them in the open! If you don't have cover, you'll lose against Vaporizers. Fight them from doors you can open and close, ducking in and out to deal damage." The wiki says engaging without sufficient cover "will quickly end in your demise." GamesRadar documents a group taking on three of them on an open plain. No survivors.
Two more, GamesRadar only. Caught in the open, dodge toward the beam rather than away, since it seems to track worse when you close on it. If you catch fire, roll: each dodge roll cuts the burn short.
Is it worth fighting
Only with intent, and only with a loadout built for it.
For fighting it: the Vaporizer is the only source of the Vaporizer Regulator, an Epic guaranteed drop that sells for 6,000, and two Regulators craft the Dolabra, the Legendary energy shotgun from the same update. It also drops ARC Alloy, ARC Flex Rubber, Electrical Components, Heavy Gun Parts and powercells, and destroying it pays 500 XP plus 600 for the chassis and 500 per thruster scavenged. GamesRadar says it explodes into multiple pieces, so search them all, though by its account it has never seen a Vaporizer drop more than one Regulator per kill. /keep-or-sell covers what to do with yours.
For leaving it alone: the Assessor loot does not require killing anything. The wiki's own Close Scrutiny plan is pure evasion, smoke before breaching and again before looting, a Lure Grenade opposite your escape route, or a Photoelectric Cloak. TheGamer says they take serious firepower and healing even in a group, and GamesRadar is sharper: "You definitely don't want to fight more than one Vaporizer at a time if you can help it." Since they patrol in pairs, most encounters are ones to walk away from. Break line of sight and come back for a straggler when you are ready.

Frequently asked questions
- How do you kill the Vaporizer in ARC Raiders?
- Fight it from hard cover, never in the open, ducking in and out of a doorway you can close. Strip its armor first with explosive launcher ammo such as the Hullcracker, then hit what you exposed with a heavy or energy weapon like the Anvil, Ferro, Aphelion or Equalizer. Breaking its rotors slows it and forces it lower, which sets up the advanced play of rappelling onto its hull with a Snap Hook and planting a Deadline mine. No source recommends light or shotgun ammo against it.
- What is the Vaporizer's weak point in ARC Raiders?
- Sources disagree, so carry all three descriptions into the fight. The arcraiders.wiki infobox names the thrusters and says shooting the underside knocks off a rectangular panel that exposes the core, GamesRadar names the thruster turbines on either side plus a belly core behind breakable armor, and Game Rant says the Vaporizer has no exposed thrusters at all, only smaller rotors closer to a Snitch's, while also pointing at the belly core. What every source agrees on is the order: break the armor first, then hit what you exposed.
- Where do Vaporizers spawn in ARC Raiders?
- Only during the Close Scrutiny map condition, near where the ARC Assessor probes land, typically a map's center or its outskirts. The wiki lists Close Scrutiny on Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport and The Blue Gate, though TheGamer's list leaves out Spaceport and no patch note settles the difference. Beebom reports two or more Vaporizers guarding an Assessor, and they also join the swarm that spawns when a Raider first breaches an Assessor pylon.
- How does the Vaporizer's energy shield work?
- Throwing a seeking or projectile grenade such as a Seeker or a Wolfpack triggers a defensive energy shield like the Matriarch's, and while it is up it blocks all projectile damage including small arms. The Vaporizer also stops firing its laser while shielded, so it is a pause for both sides. Once the shield drops it cannot be raised again for a short time, and that window is when your seeking and high damage weapons should land. No source publishes a shield duration or a cooldown length, so watch the machine rather than count.
- Is the Vaporizer worth killing in ARC Raiders?
- Only if you came for it with a loadout built for the fight. It is the only source of the Vaporizer Regulator, an Epic guaranteed drop that sells for 6,000 and is needed twice over to craft the Dolabra, the Legendary energy shotgun from the same update. But the Assessor loot it guards can be taken with smoke, a Lure Grenade or a Photoelectric Cloak without killing anything, and since Vaporizers patrol in pairs, GamesRadar's advice is to avoid fighting more than one at a time.
- Is the Vaporizer a heavy tier ARC machine?
- No source calls it heavy tier. The arcraiders.wiki infobox lists its armor as Light with 1500 health, while GamesRadar writes that all parts of the Vaporizer are highly armored, and those two readings conflict. Play it as heavily armored and bring armor piercing weapons and explosives, but do not trust a tier label that nobody has confirmed.
